UMHLANGA ROCKS - North Coast Natal

UMHLANGA ROCKS – North Coast Natal

This well known lighthouse is on the beach below the Oyster Box hotel in Umhlanga Rocks. It is almost identical to the Cooper lighthouse and took just over 4 days to build. Umhalnga Rocks also houses a fixed, red sector light below the main revolving white light. This red light demarcates the area between the shore and the North Breakwater and prevents ships from anchoring too close inshore and running aground. (As did the Ovington Court in 1940)

"Come to the light, ’tis shining for thee;Sweetly the light has dawned upon me.Once I was blind, but now I can see:The Light of the world is Jesus!"
